Freezing in February....

Not a whole lot going on around the house other than plans & dreams of Spring!  Figured I'd use my lunch break today to post something since its been a while.  Currently its only 10 degrees outside, so that is the last place I want to be!  Decided to go around and grab a few shots of what comes to mind...

1st are my few veggies I started already... basil and lettuce.  I have to transplant the lettuce into other pots before root overcrowding happens...  but can't wait for our 1st salad.  I should definitely have plenty of basil for the garden!  I will have to make & freeze more pesto this year!  We ate all of what I made... good stuff!

Should be any day now that we get the call for our tree getting taken down... the big Ash tree on the left... AEP is removing it due to growing into power lines.  I will miss the tree BUT it does shade the apple tree just to the north of it... and apples need full sun.  So hoping for good crop from that apple tree this year! The apple tree needs to be massively trimmed as well, gonna take about 1/3 off the top of it, then prune all the interior branches.   Luckily the 2 maples in front of the house only have to get trimmed.
Even tho its freezing cold out, at least there is a little sun today...  when that happens we always get the barn cats sunning themselves on the side porch.  There were more but this is all I could get in the photo thru the window.

One of my favorite things to do while I'm waiting for my cup of coffee to get warmed up in the microwave is watch the birds at the feeders.  Normally there is a whole lot more... I've seen 4 different types of woodpeckers and lately its nice to see the cardinals and bluejays back!  I have to fill the feeder up daily.  The dark spots in the flower bed in the background are actually bricks on top of 5 gallon buckets (covering roses)... lots of snow needs to melt!

So lately my nights consist of laying on the couch and reading gardening books, seed/plant catalogs or the drip irrigation catalog as I figure out my final plans....  my spot in the living room.....

That is about it...  pretty boring here in Ohio in Feb!  Can't wait till the weather starts to break, which from the sounds of it might be next week!  I can't wait for temps consistently over 32!

Next blog should be the start of my wine making diary...  I go to a class at the Grape & Granary in Akron this weekend to learn how to make wine and will be buying all the equipment I'll need.
